Portwest continues to increase the use of more sustainable materials in their garments, such as recycled polyester, CMiA and organic cotton. Through significant investment in quality, durability and performance, they rigorously test their fabrics to ensure only the best are selected for each product, resulting in durable, hardwearing fabrics that do not break down easily.
In 2023, Portwest moved all DWR products to their Texpel Splash Eco finish. This finish is not only highly water resistant, but is also a C0 finish, meaning no harmful chemicals are used in the treatment. In addition, 85% of all their garments are certified to meet the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 criteria.
Planet
Portwest has improved the packaging their garments are shipped in, while also engaging with end-of-life solutions for products to support a circular business model. The company has achieved ISO 9001, the globally recognised Quality Management System, and owns its factories to provide a level of visibility that is above the norm within the industry.
Portwest has worked to significantly reduce its carbon footprint and is currently finalising a long-term emissions reduction strategy that includes increased use of renewable energy, such as solar panels at its warehouses. Having already achieved ISO 14001 certification at its two largest sites, the company is working towards implementing this standard across its global operations.
People
Portwest has a global workforce of more than 5,500 people working in offices, warehouses and manufacturing facilities around the world. Its manufacturing facilities are modern and provide a high standard of safety and wellbeing for employees. The facilities undergo annual SMETA audits and those in Bangladesh also hold WRAP certification.
Place
Portwest strives to make a positive contribution to the communities in which it operates. Examples include supporting grassroots sports in Ireland, the 2023 March of Dimes campaign in the USA, which works to end preventable maternal health risks and deaths while closing the health equity gap, and supporting Beyond Blue, an Australian non-profit organisation that raises awareness of mental health issues and provides support for individuals and families.

- Sustainable swing tags - FSC-certified card swing tags provide an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional packaging. They are paired with sustainable organic cotton string to further reduce the environmental impact.
- Organic cotton string - 100% organic cotton string can be fully recycled or composted, helping Portwest eliminate single-use plastic lock pins.
- Moisture control packets - Portwest has replaced silica gel packets with 100% natural dri-clay packets that are biodegradable, sustainably sourced, home compostable and plastic free.
- Responsible packaging - Portwest currently ships around 15 million garments each year using sustainable packaging.
